I want to show you how to write a successful petition so that there will be no question when you actually send it in to the people who are to read it. Petitions have been used for centuries to get the people involved in a certain issues, and putting their signatures to the petition makes it that much more powerful. I can only imagine how big some of the first petitions must have been with hundreds of pages of live signatures. Today, signatures are given online, but the petition still have to be written in a way that is going to make people write them. You cannot make a petition just because it sounds like a good idea. You are going to have to put more work into it than that to get people tot ake you seriously.
The Petition Has To Read Well
You have to write a petition like a persuasive essay you were asked to write in school. You may not remember those, but you have to remember that you are trying to get people to agree with you and vote on your side by signing. This means that the essay is going to have to actually be good. You are going to have to write something that clearly lays out what you are railing against, and you are going to have to give solutions. No one is going to sign a petition that does not have a solution to a problem. In fact, you will get public backlash if you are not careful.
No Personal Attacks
I would never write a petition that is a personal attack of someone else. You can attack the things they have done, but you can never say that they are a bad person. All you are doing there is saying that you are willing to be terrible to another human being just to get your way. You are really going to have to think about that before you start writing. All your anger needs to go somewhere else because the petition has to have logic at its core.
Knowing how to write a petition is the first step in making change in the world, and you learned how to write a petition in school. Create a persuasive essay that is free of your own opinion. Give facts. Do not personally attack someone, and offer a fair solution people can get behind.
